Are you an adult with an ongoing health concern?

Are you taking care of someone with an ongoing health condition?

Take charge of your life!

If you have a chronic condition, such as diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, COPD, chronic pain, or anxiety, take charge of your life with a Better Choices, Better Health Workshop.  This six-week session will cover a variety of coping skills, like problem solving, goal setting, how to communicate with your health provider, medication management, how to set up a durable power of attorney, and relaxation techniques.  This program is administered by the Physicians Association of Rochester (PAR) through a grant from Harvard Pilgrim.

  • Wear a helmet and bright colored clothing (reflective tape on clothing and bikes for dusk and night riding).
  • Secure loose clothing like pant legs and belts.
  • Ride defensively. Look out for the other guy by anticipating their actions.
  • Watch out for road hazards.
  • Use hand signals whenever possible to alert others using the road of your intentions.
  • Pass with care. Remember turning vehicles may not see you.
  • When in doubt walk your bicycle through difficult traffic situations.
  • Use caution around buses and large trucks that have a larger turning radius and that may need to stop often for pedestrians.
  • Lock your bicycle. Secure both wheels and the frame to a stationary object using a sturdy lock.
