Demystifying medicine is my primary goal."

Treatment philosophy: "After more than 30 years in medicine, I still believe that we had better be good listeners, rather than great talkers. Although I can appreciate finding the right diagnoses, it’s more important to me to help each patient discover their own weaknesses, strengths and path to wellness. I always tell my patients that you cannot divorce the brain from the body and vice versa! So it behooves each of us to find the spiritual, familial-genetic, and practical solutions to each presenting complaint. I never see black or white, except in cases of abuse! The shades of gray make us interesting—make us different—but we still have the same problems."

Special interests: "Acute anxiety and depression, wellness and prevention, and family medicine are parts of the practice that I enjoy most. As a wellness practitioner in industry for many years, I saw first hand the benefits of making better lifestyle choices. Identifying and clarifying patient complaints is half the battle to successful treatment. Stressing the importance of routine screening as a preventative measure, helps patients to become proactive in their health care, and has the very real potential to save lives. Having practiced in the tri-city area for over 25 years I have created life long friends and generations of family connections."

Professional journey: "Beginning my first excursion into medicine as an ‘orderly’ after college, I was humbled by my care giving to seniors. I found the Physician Assistant program, met the qualifications, and the rest is history. My practiced has covered a wide range, from rural medicine in Gouldsboro, Maine to cardiology in St. Louis, but my passion and commitment to family practice and occupational medicine helped get my two sons through college!"

"When I'm not treating my patients, I enjoy... sailing, walking my dogs and especially being with my family. My wife Susie teaches language arts at the Oyster River Middle School, while our son Matt is the producer of 'The Deadliest Catch' series on Discovery and son Jamie is starting his law career in New York City with an eye towards international human rights and justice."
